We are excited to participate and present Syscoin Platform's ideal characteristics and capabilities towards a well-rounded Reddit Community Points solution!
Our scaling solution for Reddit Community Points involves 2-way peg interoperability with Ethereum. This will provide a scalable token layer built specifically for speed and high volumes of simple value transfers at a very low cost, while providing sovereign ownership and onchain finality.
Token transfers scale by taking advantage of a globally sorting mempool that provides for probabilistically secure assumptions of “as good as settled”. The opportunity here for token receivers is to have an app-layer interactivity on the speed/security tradeoff (99.9999% assurance within 10 seconds). We call this Z-DAG, and it achieves high-throughput across a mesh network topology presently composed of about 2,000 geographically dispersed full-nodes. Similar to Bitcoin, however, these nodes are incentivized to run full-nodes for the benefit of network security, through a bonded validator scheme. These nodes do not participate in the consensus of transactions or block validation any differently than other nodes and therefore do not degrade the security model of Bitcoin’s validate first then trust, across every node. Each token transfer settles on-chain. The protocol follows Bitcoin core policies so it has adequate code coverage and protocol hardening to be qualified as production quality software. It shares a significant portion of Bitcoin’s own hashpower through merged-mining.
This platform as a whole can serve token microtransactions, larger settlements, and store-of-value in an ideal fashion, providing probabilistic scalability whilst remaining decentralized according to Bitcoin design. It is accessible to ERC-20 via a permissionless and trust-minimized bridge that works in both directions. The bridge and token platform are currently available on the Syscoin mainnet. This has been gaining recent attention for use by loyalty point programs and stablecoins such as Binance USD.

Solutions

Syscoin Foundation identified a few paths for Reddit to leverage this infrastructure, each with trade-offs. The first provides the most cost-savings and scaling benefits at some sacrifice of token autonomy. The second offers more preservation of autonomy with a more narrow scope of cost savings than the first option, but savings even so. The third introduces more complexity than the previous two yet provides the most overall benefits. We consider the third as most viable as it enables Reddit to benefit even while retaining existing smart contract functionality. We will focus on the third option, and include the first two for good measure.
 1. Distribution, burns and user-to-user transfers of Reddit Points are entirely carried out on the Syscoin network. This full-on approach to utilizing the Syscoin network provides the most scalability and transaction cost benefits of these scenarios. The tradeoff here is distribution and subscription handling likely migrating away from smart contracts into the application layer.
 2. The Reddit Community Points ecosystem can continue to use existing smart contracts as they are used today on the Ethereum mainchain. Users migrate a portion of their tokens to Syscoin, the scaling network, to gain much lower fees, scalability, and a proven base layer, without sacrificing sovereign ownership. They would use Syscoin for user-to-user transfers. Tips redeemable in ten seconds or less, a high-throughput relay network, and onchain settlement at a block target of 60 seconds.
 3. Integration between Matic Network and Syscoin Platform - similar to Syscoin’s current integration with Ethereum - will provide Reddit Community Points with EVM scalability (including the Memberships ERC777 operator) on the Matic side, and performant simple value transfers, robust decentralized security, and sovereign store-of-value on the Syscoin side. It’s “the best of both worlds”. The trade-off is more complex interoperability.

Syscoin + Matic Integration

Matic and Blockchain Foundry Inc, the public company formed by the founders of Syscoin, recently entered a partnership for joint research and business development initiatives. This is ideal for all parties as Matic Network and Syscoin Platform provide complementary utility. Syscoin offers characteristics for sovereign ownership and security based on Bitcoin’s time-tested model, and shares a significant portion of Bitcoin’s own hashpower. Syscoin’s focus is on secure and scalable simple value transfers, trust-minimized interoperability, and opt-in regulatory compliance for tokenized assets rather than scalability for smart contract execution. On the other hand, Matic Network can provide scalable EVM for smart contract execution. Reddit Community Points can benefit from both.
Syscoin + Matic integration is actively being explored by both teams, as it is helpful to Reddit, Ethereum, and the industry as a whole.

Proving Performance & Cost Savings

Our POC focuses on 100,000 on-chain settlements of token transfers on the Syscoin Core blockchain. Transfers and burns perform equally with Syscoin. For POCs related to smart contracts (subscriptions, etc), refer to the Matic Network proposal.
On-chain settlement of 100k transactions was accomplished within roughly twelve minutes, well-exceeding Reddit’s expectation of five days. This was performed using six full-nodes operating on compute-optimized AWS c4.2xlarge instances which were geographically distributed (Virginia, London, Sao Paulo Brazil, Oregon, Singapore, Germany). A higher quantity of settlements could be reached within the same time-frame with more broadcasting nodes involved, or using hosts with more resources for faster execution of the process.

It is important to note that this POC is not focused on Z-DAG. The performance of Z-DAG has been benchmarked within realistic network conditions: Whiteblock’s audit is publicly available. Network latency tests showed an average TPS around 15k with burst capacity up to 61k. Zero-latency control group exhibited ~150k TPS. Mainnet testing of the Z-DAG network is achievable and will require further coordination and additional resources.
Even further optimizations are expected in the upcoming Syscoin Core release which will implement a UTXO model for our token layer bringing further efficiency as well as open the door to additional scaling technology currently under research by our team and academic partners. At present our token layer is account-based, similar to Ethereum. Opt-in compliance structures will also be introduced soon which will offer some positive performance characteristics as well. It makes the most sense to implement these optimizations before performing another benchmark for Z-DAG, especially on the mainnet considering the resources required to stress-test this network.

Cost Savings

Total cost for these 100k transactions: $0.63 USD
See the live fee comparison for savings estimation between transactions on Ethereum and Syscoin. Below is a snapshot at time of writing:
ETH price: $318.55 ETH gas price: 55.00 Gwei ($0.37)
Syscoin price: $0.11
Snapshot of live fee comparison chart
Z-DAG provides a more efficient fee-market. A typical Z-DAG transaction costs 0.0000582 SYS. Tokens can be safely redeemed/re-spent within seconds or allowed to settle on-chain beforehand. The costs should remain about this low for microtransactions.
Syscoin will achieve further reduction of fees and even greater scalability with offchain payment channels for assets, with Z-DAG as a resilience fallback. New payment channel technology is one of the topics under research by the Syscoin development team with our academic partners at TU Delft. In line with the calculation in the Lightning Networks white paper, payment channels using assets with Syscoin Core will bring theoretical capacity for each person on Earth (7.8 billion) to have five on-chain transactions per year, per person, without requiring anyone to enter a fee market (aka “wait for a block”). This exceeds the minimum LN expectation of two transactions per person, per year; one to exist on-chain and one to settle aggregated value.

Trade-off

The Syscoin Ethereum Bridge is secured by Agent nodes participating in a decentralized and incentivized model that involves roles of Superblock challengers and submitters. This model is open to participation. The benefits here are trust-minimization, permissionless-ness, and potentially less legal/regulatory red-tape than interop mechanisms that involve liquidity providers and/or trading mechanisms.
The trade-off is that due to the decentralized nature there are cross-chain settlement times of one hour to cross from Ethereum to Syscoin, and three hours to cross from Syscoin to Ethereum. We are exploring ways to reduce this time while maintaining decentralization via zkp. Even so, an “instant bridge” experience could be provided by means of a third-party liquidity mechanism. That option exists but is not required for bridge functionality today. Typically bridges are used with batch value, not with high frequencies of smaller values, and generally it is advantageous to keep some value on both chains for maximum availability of utility. Even so, the cross-chain settlement time is good to mention here.

Cost

Ethereum -> Syscoin: Matic or Ethereum transaction fee for bridge contract interaction, negligible Syscoin transaction fee for minting tokens
Syscoin -> Ethereum: Negligible Syscoin transaction fee for burning tokens, 0.01% transaction fee paid to Bridge Agent in the form of the ERC-20, Matic or Ethereum transaction fee for contract interaction.

Z-DAG

Zero-Confirmation Directed Acyclic Graph is an instant settlement protocol that is used as a complementary system to proof-of-work (PoW) in the confirmation of Syscoin service transactions. In essence, a Z-DAG is simply a directed acyclic graph (DAG) where validating nodes verify the sequential ordering of transactions that are received in their memory pools. Z-DAG is used by the validating nodes across the network to ensure that there is absolute consensus on the ordering of transactions and no balances are overflowed (no double-spends).

Benefits

 • Unique fee-market that is more efficient for microtransaction redemption and settlement
 • Uses decentralized means to enable tokens with value transfer scalability that is comparable or exceeds that of credit card networks
 • Provides high throughput and secure fulfillment even if blocks are full
 • Probabilistic and interactive
 • 99.9999% security assurance within 10 seconds
 • Can serve payment channels as a resilience fallback that is faster and lower-cost than falling-back directly to a blockchain
 • Each Z-DAG transaction also settles onchain through Syscoin Core at 60-second block target using SHA-256 Proof of Work consensus

Trade-off

Z-DAG enables the ideal speed/security tradeoff to be determined per use-case in the application layer. It minimizes the sacrifice required to accept and redeem fast transfers/payments while providing more-than-ample security for microtransactions. This is supported on the premise that a Reddit user receiving points does need security yet generally doesn’t want nor need to wait for the same level of security as a nation-state settling an international trade debt. In any case, each Z-DAG transaction settles onchain at a block target of 60 seconds.

Syscoin Specs

Syscoin 3.0 White Paper
(4.0 white paper is pending. For improved scalability and less blockchain bloat, some features of v3 no longer exist in current v4: Specifically Marketplace Offers, Aliases, Escrow, Certificates, Pruning, Encrypted Messaging)
 • 16MB block bandwidth per minute assuming segwit witness carrying transactions, and transactions ~200 bytes on average
 • SHA256 merge mined with Bitcoin
 • UTXO asset layer, with base Syscoin layer sharing identical security policies as Bitcoin Core
 • Z-DAG on asset layer, bridge to Ethereum on asset layer
 • On-chain scaling with prospect of enabling enterprise grade reliable trustless payment processing with on/offchain hybrid solution
 • Focus only on Simple Value Transfers. MVP of blockchain consensus footprint is balances and ownership of them. Everything else can reduce data availability in exchange for scale (Ethereum 2.0 model). We leave that to other designs, we focus on transfers.
 • Future integrations of MAST/Taproot to get more complex value transfers without trading off trustlessness or decentralization.
 • Zero-knowledge Proofs are a cryptographic new frontier. We are dabbling here to generalize the concept of bridging and also verify the state of a chain efficiently. We also apply it in our Digital Identity projects at Blockchain Foundry (a publicly traded company which develops Syscoin softwares for clients). We are also looking to integrate privacy preserving payment channels for off-chain payments through zkSNARK hub & spoke design which does not suffer from the HTLC attack vectors evident on LN. Much of the issues plaguing Lightning Network can be resolved using a zkSNARK design whilst also providing the ability to do a multi-asset payment channel system. Currently we found a showstopper attack (American Call Option) on LN if we were to use multiple-assets. This would not exist in a system such as this.

Wallets

Web3 and mobile wallets are under active development by Blockchain Foundry Inc as WebAssembly applications and expected for release not long after mainnet deployment of Syscoin Core 4.2. Both of these will be multi-coin wallets that support Syscoin, SPTs, Ethereum, and ERC-20 tokens. The Web3 wallet will provide functionality similar to Metamask.
Syscoin Platform and tokens are already integrated with Blockbook. Custom hardware wallet support currently exists via ElectrumSys. First-class HW wallet integration through apps such as Ledger Live will exist after 4.2.

Thank you for close consideration of our proposal. We look forward to feedback, and to working with the Reddit community to implement an ideal solution using Syscoin Platform!

ALL NEW! – HODL GRS Android Wallet

HODL GRS connects directly to the Groestlcoin network using SPV mode and doesn't rely on servers that can be hacked or disabled.
HODL GRS utilizes AES hardware encryption, app sandboxing, and the latest security features to protect users from malware, browser security holes, and even physical theft. Private keys are stored only in the secure enclave of the user's phone, inaccessible to anyone other than the user.
Simplicity and ease-of-use is the core design principle of HODL GRS. A simple recovery phrase (which we call a Backup Recovery Key) is all that is needed to restore the user's wallet if they ever lose or replace their device. HODL GRS is deterministic, which means the user's balance and transaction history can be recovered just from the backup recovery key.

ALL NEW! – Vanity Search Vanity Address Generator

NOTE: NVidia GPU or any CPU only. AMD graphics cards will not work with this address generator.
VanitySearch is a command-line Segwit-capable vanity Groestlcoin address generator. Add unique flair when you tell people to send Groestlcoin. Alternatively, VanitySearch can be used to generate random addresses offline.
If you're tired of the random, cryptic addresses generated by regular groestlcoin clients, then VanitySearch is the right choice for you to create a more personalized address.
VanitySearch is a groestlcoin address prefix finder. If you want to generate safe private keys, use the -s option to enter your passphrase which will be used for generating a base key as for BIP38 standard (VanitySearch.exe -s "My PassPhrase" FXPref). You can also use VanitySearch.exe -ps "My PassPhrase" which will add a crypto secure seed to your passphrase.
VanitySearch may not compute a good grid size for your GPU, so try different values using -g option in order to get the best performances. If you want to use GPUs and CPUs together, you may have best performances by keeping one CPU core for handling GPU(s)/CPU exchanges (use -t option to set the number of CPU threads).

ALL NEW! – Electrum Personal Server

Groestlcoin Electrum Personal Server aims to make using Electrum Groestlcoin wallet more secure and more private. It makes it easy to connect your Electrum-GRS wallet to your own full node.
It is an implementation of the Electrum-grs server protocol which fulfils the specific need of using the Electrum-grs wallet backed by a full node, but without the heavyweight server backend, for a single user. It allows the user to benefit from all Groestlcoin Core's resource-saving features like pruning, blocks only and disabled txindex. All Electrum-GRS's feature-richness like hardware wallet integration, multi-signature wallets, offline signing, seed recovery phrases, coin control and so on can still be used, but connected only to the user's own full node.
Full node wallets are important in Groestlcoin because they are a big part of what makes the system be trust-less. No longer do people have to trust a financial institution like a bank or PayPal, they can run software on their own computers. If Groestlcoin is digital gold, then a full node wallet is your own personal goldsmith who checks for you that received payments are genuine.
Full node wallets are also important for privacy. Using Electrum-GRS under default configuration requires it to send (hashes of) all your Groestlcoin addresses to some server. That server can then easily spy on your transactions. Full node wallets like Groestlcoin Electrum Personal Server would download the entire blockchain and scan it for the user's own addresses, and therefore don't reveal to anyone else which Groestlcoin addresses they are interested in.
Groestlcoin Electrum Personal Server can also broadcast transactions through Tor which improves privacy by resisting traffic analysis for broadcasted transactions which can link the IP address of the user to the transaction. If enabled this would happen transparently whenever the user simply clicks "Send" on a transaction in Electrum-grs wallet.
Note: Currently Groestlcoin Electrum Personal Server can only accept one connection at a time.

WALLETS, SETUP GUIDES & SNAPSHOTS
Just a reminder for the community and also for any new members, we have added a Wallet Setup Guides page, which takes any first time user of Mousecoin step-by-step through the process of installing their Mousecoin wallet and getting it online. The guide uses the latest blockchain snapshot found on the Wallet Downloads Page in the example explanation meaning that all new members of the Mousecoin community will be able to get their wallets online faster as the sync time should be minimal. We will be updating the blockchain snapshot at least once every month to ensure that people have access to the most up to date blockchain info. The latest blockchain snapshot was performed on the 1st June 2020.
The wallet version is currenty V1.0.0.0, with future releases of the Mousecoin wallet coming soon
If you are new to crypto currency or just after a bit of guidance setting up the Mousecoin wallet, check out our Wallet Setup Guides

POS & STAKING
In the last month we asked the community if they would be interested in being a part of a Community Staking Pool. After investigations into this finding security flaws in most platforms, as well as the lack of interest from members of the community we have decided to not go ahead with the Community Staking Pool. While we understand that there are members of the Mousecoin Community that are unable to stake themselves for whatever reason, and that there are a number of staking platforms that offer pool staking for MIC3 to help these people stake, we will not officially be supporting any staking platforms. We ask all Community members using these or thinking about using these to keep in mind that any MIC3 hosted on these platforms is not in their wallets, and therefore not controlled by them. Do proper investigations into any platform that you use for this as there is always the possibility of loss. We encourage all members of the Mousecoin Community to stake from their own wallet (where possible) as this helps us to secure the network. If you need help setting up your wallet, go to our Wallet Setup Guides page for step-by-step guides on setting up your Mousecoin wallet.
MOUSECOIN FAUCETS
We have updated the Mousecoin (MIC3) Faucets Page:
To make things clearer and we will be adding more faucets soon!
EXCHANGES
Last month we saw the edition of the USDT/MIC3 pair to nanu exchange. In our efforts to increase exposure of Mousecoin, we are still attempting to list on both ATAIX and Unnamed.Exhchange.
ATAIX We have risen to 18th position in the voting list on ATAIX, but we still need your votes. Remember you can vote every 24 hours for this listing, and you can share in 125,000,000 MIC3
📷
Unnamed.Exhchange The exchange listing for Unnamed.Exhchange is 0.05 BTC. For anyone unfamiliar with the exchange there are two ways that you can donate to the listing:
1. If you are already a member of, or wish to be a member of Unnamed.Exhchange (and why wouldn’t you), you can put funds towards our listing by tipping us through the trollbox (Mousecoins). If you wish to be a member of Unnamed.Exhchange, you can register here: https://www.unnamed.exchange/Login/Register
2. You can also donate to the listing fee through the following addresses: BTC – bc1qmaqzhfqcw0urva0rtgfz5qvq4rw7kdnp6j7754 LTC – ltc1qc775eeftdde2jrevnyukrd2w9853jy5gmtv6rn DOGE – DEnBpriaFnKiNeBv6Q7MVxMg5hLv5urQFg UTIP – AUTyu2JhGAaCkM3KAmeBopto2bNBchNJfE
If you would like to donate in another crypto available on Unnamed.Exhchange, we have opened up the chat on the Discord channel HERE to assist with this. Please request the address and we will provide it for you. ANY AND ALL DONATIONS ARE WELCOME!! This is a good exchange and getting a listing her should help lift the profile of MIC3.
We will be reporting balances to the discord channel https://discord.gg/cYuA8FA
COMMUNITY FUND
📷
In the last month the Community Fund has undergone a huge amount of change. We have completely moved all of our remaining balances away from 4Stake, with the MIC3 going to the Community Fund MIC3 account and the remaining crypto’s towards out listing on Unnamed.Exhchange. The Community Fund page on the website has also been updated to reflect all of the changes. It is an exciting time for the Community Fund as we have now reached a balance that will sustain itself. This is why we have introduced the Community Member payment, and are able to sustain the faucets we have on https://erex.io/freecoin/ and in the Phoneum Games. There is still more to come!

Start Here for Much Wallet WOW!

EDIT 2017-02-10: A word about Nodes

There is a discussion about nodes that came up today, where it seems I'm discouraging people from running the full QT/Core client. Yes and No. What I'm trying to make sure people understand is how things work, and that it is NOT mandatory to run a client in order to use Dogecoins (and yes, I realise that browser-based tools like coinb.in and wallet sweepers are 'clients' by strict definition).
That said, more nodes is absolutely a good thing for the network. Preferrably full nodes. How do you run a full node? Just run Core/QT and open up Port 22556 on your router so it can connect to more than 8 peers. What will it cost you? You need your machine to be on 24/7/365, you need enough storage for the full blockchain (currently about 20Gb. Bitcoin is over 120Gb) and enough bandwidth to keep it in sync and share blocks with peers. A couple of Gb a month, most likely. This is best done with a desktop on a wired broadband link. Or maybe a hosted VM in the cloud. :)

EDIT 2017-01-09: Wallets WITHOUT Clients

Since I started helping people on /BitcoinBeginners, I'm getting a lot of questions about how to use wallets without running clients or trusting third parties. So here are a couple of resources that will make that possible, and not just for Dogecoin:
Multi-Coin Wallet Generator Now supporting 129 currencies! Coinb.in Start by setting the currency, found in the gear wheel in the Broadcast tab. Dogecoin Wallet Sweeper Redeem 'paper' wallets containing up to about 100 UTXOs. Bitinfo Charts My favourite block explorer, handles a bunch of cryptos.
Using these resources, it is possible to hold, receive and spend coins in various currencies, without having to run QT or a 'lite' client. You can also download and run the pages on your own device.

EDIT 2016-11-23: SEMANTICS about MINING! :P

Even though there is already a section on mining below, it has been suggested given the huge number of posts on the subject that this needs to be made clearer. Since people get their panties in a twist over the word 'dead', lets change that...

MINING IS DEAD!

MINING DOGECOIN IS UNPROFITABLE!

Put simply, there is no way to mine Dogecoin and make a profit because of the massive hashpower provided by industrial-scale Litecoin miners. Mining Doge directly stopped being viable when our hashrate exploded with the introduction of AuxPoW. Mining with CPU's and GPU's died when ASICs were introduced. And mining with a laptop WILL kill your laptop and cost you a fortune to repair or replace. Mining Litecoin with an exchange that also mines Doge and others will earn less than the electricity consumed, and you won't recover your costs. Probably ever, but certainly not in any reasonable time.
Mining other currencies may be a thing, but that's beyond our scope here. This is /Dogecoin, not /GetRichMiningCryptos after all. If you want to mine the newest scamcoin for fun and profit, look elsewhere for advice. :/
Oh, and most important:

READ BEFORE YOU POST!

At any given time, there are half a dozen posts on the frontpage just like the one you're about to write, where the answers have already been given. Read them. Don't make people waste their time repeating themselves because you were too lazy to bother reading stuff. :P
So there I was, having a quiet Sundy arvo bludge, as you do, when 42points turned up on Facebook and asked me to write a new sticky post for /dogecoin. Why would he do this, when he should be having a bludge himself, I hear you ask? Well, seems he was doing exactly that, and wanted to fob off the work he’s too slack to do himself. ;) Ah well, being a sucker for punishment, I’ll grudgingly oblige I guess.
OK, first things first.

EDITS:

From peoplma
I was wondering if you could add just a couple things. A link to the coinomi android wallet, it's probably the best one out there. And a sentence somewhere along the lines of "if you need help with any dogecoin software you are welcome to make a post, but PLEASE include your OS, version number of the client, and any relevant transaction IDs that you are willing to share" if you can fit that in somewhere.
Also, if you want to link to Prohashing, I'm pretty sure it's the only Scrypt mining pool that will actually pay out in doge. The others I know of pay out in litecoin or bitcoin. And it's a profit switching multipool, so gives a better return than just mining ltc/doge.
And there's these two wiki articles I thought would be helpful to link /dogecoin/wiki/technical for those technically minded newbies or intermediate users who want to dig a little deeper. And maybe a link to /dogecoin/wiki/dogecoincoreguide next to the link for dogecoin core.
From pts2002
Finally a proper sticky post! Here's some other stuff you could add:
zpool.ca mining pool - You can get paid in pretty much any coin, and you can mine in multiple algos (currently mining lyra2v2 with my GPU). Doing about 500Ð/day
shapeshift.io exchange - My favourite exchange, quick and easy. No registration required!
Also, you should add some blockchain explorers!
chain.so - Support for bitcoin, litecoin and doge.
dogechain.info - Official blockchain explorer. Includes a wallet (already mentioned). Live update currently not working (?)
EDIT: Here's another thing I found!
preev.com currency value calculator - Easy way to check the value of your dogecoins (or bitcoins, or litecoins, or peercoins)!

WIP: Blackpi - a stake device based on raspberry

Warning: This is a WiP and it's using Blackcoin Lore which is still in beta. Please be aware of that and backup your wallet.dat before you put any real values in this!
UPDATES
29.12.2017
22.06.2017
I am currently trying to set up blackoin on raspberry. Community members asked for a tutorial to compile it, so I will start with this here. Maybe in the future it would even be possible to turn it into a headless (=without screen and keyboard) image to put on an SD card and just boot up the wallet.
I used the latest Blackcoin Lore by janko33 for this process, however it should be quite the same with the "original" core wallet by rat4/johndolittle. Blackcoin Lore is not deemed as stable as it is still in beta, so it's up to you what source tree you take.
Please be also aware, that compiling on a small computer like raspi can take a while. Please also note that Lore is still in beta. The names in the archive are still "bitcoin". There is an update comming where the naming is correct and also maybe a few bugfixes.
** Tutorial: **
You first need to get raspbian. The lite image will work, it's a small version of the operating system without a graphical interface, so you will need ssh to operate it. The image is 294 MB but you will want to have a bigger card. 2GB is certainly too small, better get 16 or even 32GB - you also will need space for the blockchain!
To install it I followed this guide
https://hackernoon.com/raspberry-pi-headless-install-462ccabd75d0
Get the raspdian image file from:
https://www.raspberrypi.org/downloads/raspbian/
Also get Etcher from
https://etcher.io/
Etcher is a tool to write img files to an SD card/USB-stick.
After writing, open the card in your explorer and add a file "ssh". The file sould be empty and just be called "ssh" (not ssh.txt or something). It will tell raspi to activate ssh on boot.
Then boot up your raspi with the card and plug it into your network. Consult your router's LAN-page to find the device, it should register to your router as "raspberry" or so. Open up Putty and login to your raspi using pi as username and raspberry as password.
After login you can configure your raspi, please read the guide linked above for more details.
Note: One important thing that you should configure is your timezone! Use
sudo raspi-config
Go to 4. Localisation Options and set the time to your timezone. If your time is way off, you would get troubles with staking, so make sure you always have the time set right!
After you got everything set up, get the build environment ready:
sudo apt-get install build-essential libtool autotools-dev automake pkg-config libssl-dev libevent-dev bsdmainutils #Installs alot and can take a while git clone -b Blackcoin-Lore https://github.com/janko33bd/bitcoin Blackcoin-Lore cd Blackcoin-Lore cd depends make -j 6 HOST=arm-linux-gnueabihf cd .. ./autogen.sh ./configure --prefix=`pwd`/depends/arm-linux-gnueabihf
# note: ` = is a "backtick" not an apostroph. It causes the outpupt of "pwd" being inserted there
make -j 6 # -j n tells the compiler to use more cores, speeds that up a little (n = 1.5*cores installed) sudo make install
This should compile so far. Update: Lore does not need Berkeley DB 4.8 to be installed, so just go with the DB provided by the repository works (libdb++-dev). (Thanks patcrypt)
After compile you can run the wallet with
lored
And after it synced you have bitcoin-cli to control the wallet.
Issue: Synching blocks takes an awfully long time on raspi for some reason, even with Lore (that syncs blocks in a few hours instead of a whole day on a normal computer). If anyone knows how to speed up that process, please let us know!
This thread is a WiP. Please post all issues and errors here, I will then edit the OP to make it into a real, working tutorial.
On a note it was mentioned, that using an USB-stick here instead of a card would make sense since the cards are more prone to failure than USB-sticks. I will include setting it up on USB in a later version of this tutorial.
Some tips and tricks
Since compiling takes a longer time, it is recommented to run it in the console in a screen. Screen is a terminal tool that supports multiple windows in the same shell and, most important, detaches when your ssh connection breaks. Using screen you can simply reconnect and use screen -r to attach to your running shell again. To use screen, you need to install and then start it before you start the whole build process within a screen-shell.
sudo apt-get install screen screen #Start install/build process here #Type [ctrl-a] [d] to detach from the screen and put it in the background #After reconnect type screen -r to jump back into your running shell
If you want to see your blocks being processed while the wallet syncs to the network, use the following command on a second shell (new Putty instance or screen window which you can open in screen with [ctrl-a] [c] (hit [ctrl-a] [n] to cycle through the windows in screen)
watch -n 5 lore-cli getinfo #This will execute the command "bitcoin-cli getinfo" every 5 seconds and thus display live update of your wallet info
How to use that thing?
Here are a few helpful CLI commands, call them with lore-cli
help - Returns available commands help - Returns detailed help to a getinfo - Returns a descriptive information of your wallet, including balance getwalletinfo - Returns short information about your wallet, including balance, unconfirmed balance, immature balance, number of tx ect getaccountaddress 'raspi' - Returns an address for your wallet. If the account does not need to exist, it will be created with new address sendtoaddress - Sends to sendtoaddress substractfeefromaccount - Sends minus tx fee to getnewaddress - Returns a new address for each time you call the command. is optional
Further plans for this tutorial/project
Have fun!

Guide: How to redeem and sell bitcoin diamond (bcd) from ledger nano s (Segwit)

I spent two days to figure this out but I think I know how to solve this, just currently stuck and need your help! I had btc stored on a nano s segwit wallet before the fork.
Bitcoin diamond was forked from bitcoin on block #495866 (nov 24 2017) and launched the mainnet Jan 5 2018 (I think). There is currently very little information about this project and very little support on exchanges, wallets and mining. http://btcd.io
The only light wallet currently have a splitting tool is Bither for Android but they do not support Segwit. If you had your btc in a segwit wallet before the fork you can't use this method.
Otherwise follow this: https://steemit.com/bitcoin/@tiberiu/how-i-claimed-sbtc-super-bitcoin-from-my-paper-wallet Or this: https://www.reddit.com/BitcoinMarkets/comments/7oekie/guide_how_to_redeem_and_sell_all_bitcoin_fork/
You get 10 bcd for every btc and current price is 0.001 btc. That means you get $160/ forked btc which is 1% free money. Is it worth it? For me it is. You can use same method for both SBTC and BCD. Other methods can be used for BTX, BCX and BFX but have to wait for me. Need segwit support in Coinomi and/or Bither.
In my BCD case it was a bit more complicated but hopefully possible.
 1. Move btc from ledger nano to somewhere save
 2. Download the BIP39 converter (standalone version). Unplug your internet and run the html: https://github.com/iancoleman/bip39
 3. Enter your ledger 24 word mnemonic. Select BIP49 derivation path. Find your btc address that contained btc right before block 495866, copy private key. Use a block explorer: https://blockchain.info
 4. Find the tx ID that sent those btc and verify in bcd explorer if you have any bcd before you continue (click on the actual address will not work for some reason, shows empty). My tx had 3000 confirmations. http://explorer.btcd.io
 5. Now the complicated part =) You have to build bitcoin diamond core app from source because it doesn't exist yet: https://github.com/eveybcd/BitcoinDiamond
 6. I built it for windows x64 using this guide (by cloning bitcoin diamond from github instead of bitcoin when you come to that step). Took 1h.: https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin/blob/mastedoc/build-windows.md
 7. Actually quite cool you can run Ubuntu on Windows 10! You can build for 32 bit as well but not when you have installed dependencies for x64. The last step will copy the binaries to your windows folder: "make install DESTDIR=/mnt/c/workspace/bitcoindiamond"
 8. Run bitcoindiamond-qt in windows and let it sync with network. Took me 12h with fiber connection.
 9. Go to help and open console. If your wallet is encrypted, decrypt for 10min using: "walletpassphrase your-wallet-passphrase 600".
 10. Import old btc address as watch-only to check bcd balance. True means it will rescan the blockchain. Rescan took 1h with a decent PC (no SSD):
 11. If you see your BCD balance, now Import your btc private key into the watch-only address. No need to rescan again, thus "false".:
Ok here is where I'm stuck. I can see my balance but it's not spendable. I also tried to import private key directly (with sync) with empty core wallet but balance is still zero. It does not pick up the transaction! Anyone know how to solve this?
Rest of the guide when this is solved:

EOT - Encryption of things

**EOT - Encryption of things**
There is a huge surge in devices attached to the internet, known as the Internet of Things, and it is estimated that over 80 Billion devices will be connected to the internet by 2025, from industrial machines to devices in our home. The constant hacking and cyber attacks have increased not only the demand but the necessity of secure solutions. Our privacy and digital footprint are at risk.
Some examples where encryption plays a role:
Secure messaging - To make messages truly secure we need a process whereby a cryptography can be applied to encrypt transaction.
Secure calling - Secure calling is a process whereby the caller and the recipient of the call are identified and linked via a blockchain enabled cryptocurrency transfer, again creating public and private encryption keys making the call truly private.
Secure media storage - To safely and securely store media a process is required where 1.) Access to the media is encrypted via public and private keys of the person wanting to store the media. 2.) The media itself needs to be encrypted with a set of encryption keys and 3.) Media storage costs need to be paid via cryptocurrency
Secure browsing - To browse the internet securely we need to create a process of verification whereby nodes on the blockchain can verify websites as “safe”. Furthermore, the entire process needs to be encrypted as well.
Verification - This is one of the most important uses of a blockchain, we can verify websites as in the example above but also various other things such as identity, title and ownership, date stamps and source of products as with the verification of the source of agricultural or other products. These are just a few examples. All of this data needs to be encrypted as well.
“Smart home” security - Wi-Fi is often used for remote monitoring and control. Home devices, when remotely monitored and controlled via the Internet, are an important constituent of the Internet of Things - all needing encryption, otherwise, hackers paradise.
EOT in the future - The examples we mentioned above are only “scratching the surface” of where these technologies are applicable and who knows what will be invented in future. Google, Apple and Uber are all testing cars that drive themselves. A major issue with this technology is again the security aspect and the need to protect against hacking and who want’s to get into a spaceship to Mars that might be hacked or hijacked by ransomware?
So the future for the “Encryption of Things” – EOT, looks very interesting indeed and the role of crypto currencies in this will be major.

Some Helpful Information

You have been keeping a great secret.
I've been doing a bit of research with the technology behind this coin. It looks like ALOT of research has gone into this tech, since about 2004 and shortly after a patent for this P2P system was quickly issued.
Bitvault (https://swissbankinyourpocket.com/product/bitvault/) who are using the worlds first blockchain phone as a secure communication device and ultimately taking encryption to the Internet Of Things (IoT) keeping our personal and business data secure. All this is done using EOT coin (Encryption of Things).
In todays world insecure devices are rampant. Here are a couple of links about the CIA being able to use insecure devices to 'cause accidents' http://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/news/cyber-life/sd-me-wikileaks-cia-20170307-story.html and https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/innovations/wp/2017/03/08/what-we-know-about-car-hacking-the-cia-and-those-wikileaks-claims/
It's scary to think a legal entity could posses such power over life. Just the mere fact alone the governing authority can request phone records (e.g. txt msgs, voice msgs or eavesdropping) proves most if not all telecommunication companies do not encrypt, otherwise whats the point on requesting the information!? (legal or not).
Commercially sensitive information needs to be protected and most importantly in my opinion our rights and the privacy of all citizens of the human race need to be protected.
From my understanding BitVault is a platform for reference data. This would be data that is stored for compliance reasons such as e-mails, invoicing systems and check imaging (e.g. high quality imaging for x-rays, MRI scans etc) and a prototype was developed in 2004. This would means massive amount of data storage is required with fail-safe systems so a authorised user could access this information very very quickly.
Three goals were needed to be achieved: Low cost, high reliability/availability and simplicity. This is the birth of Bitvault via EOT.
Bitvault ultimately stores immutable objects with each new version being updated and identified with a 160-bit key.
System stability is very important and must be immune to failure sequences. Parallel repair via indexing is one of the many strengths Bitvault has been able to demonstrate.
BitVault is a back-end system that uses Applications to catalog object ID's. Using a catalog utility and indexing within an application prevented scalability bottlenecking under heavy loads.
Fast forward 3 years to 2007 a very important decision was to decentralise BitVaults system. This in my opinion is one of the fundamental principles of cryptocurrency - No one entity or person has any control of the data stored and only the authorised user can access this info. Ultimate Security and thus personal safety (see above articles CIA hacks). BitVault using applications have been able to use provable communication and data storage with ease of retrieval with vital security measures.
BitVault is not alone in researching solutions for security for the IoT, such as Venti and the like are making progress, however, BitVault is 'head and shoulders' above the few competitors and are already offering practical working solutions on the market with huge scalability that is cost effective.
Well Done BitVault, well done EOT your secret is out and let the world embrace.

I have had a response in Slack and it has satisfied my questions. Thank-you.
For everyone information here it is:
The currency was created with 200 Million EOT total supply on 7 July 2017 [ we showed it to the community a London Fintech week with the demonstration of the BitVault - fintechweek.com ]
100 Million was pre-mined and another 100 Million are currently being mined, 1 block every 90 seconds @ 100 coins per block.
So the pre-mined coins were listed on waves as a token so that it can create a market for the coins while we are working to get listed on other exchanges.
The 100 Million coins listed were distributed in several ways. Firstly, this was not an ICO because our business is already funded via private capital. We wanted to get the currency distributed a widely as possible. So most of the initial coins were given away to a number of interested parties. We distributed this to our whole development team, business partners, employees as well as to the waves and other communities. So we did not sell all these coins for the current price, most of it was given away for free to people that have an interest in our products and business. The price now is formed by whoever owns these coins.
The tokens on the exchange is really a representation of the currency and as such has value because it can be interchanged, just like Bitcoin and Ethereum are on the waves exchange. This whole process is explained on page 4 of the waves whitepaper, I think they call it an asset-to-asset exchange which makes it possible to list any asset that exist on waves. Unfortunately waves only has gateways currently for Bitcoin, Ethereum, Waves, Euro and USD, so we have to develop our own gateway, which will be available on Nov 1.
So to clarify 100,000,000 tokens costing $190M were not sold. It is a combination of airdrops, private sales and sales on the exchange.
Some EOT coins are needed because: "A lot of EOT will be distributed through our devices. For example our encrypted routers are pre-loaded with EOT, so we need that stock and it will be distributed that way".
And with the response to tokens on the Waves Exchange "This is how Bitcoin works on waves: - They created 21 Million BTC Tokens.. When you deposit Bitcoin into waves account, you receive an equal amount of tokens which you can either trade or even sent via the waves blockchain to another user.. Once you withdraw your tokens are exchanged for BTC and you receive it back into your BTC wallet.. Exactly the same for USD or EUR - You don't send Euro's to another client on waves if you transfer - you send a token that represents EUR -- This works exactly the w0083".
These are the answers I was looking for and make a lot of sense now. This is indeed an exciting project. :)
It's time to trade....
Now I have one question left....
Is there anyone using NiceHash to mine this coin?? I keep being disconnected because of the difficulty being too low. Can any one help?
EOT (coin) is now tradable on the CryptoBridge Decentralised Exchange, you can sign up below.
Please note this is for the EOT COIN ONLY, do not send tokens to this dex. This is a secure means to trade with the backend being on a blockchain. It is still in beta stage but has been working flawlessly so far. If you'd like more info I will post their website link is below.
https://wallet.crypto-bridge.org/?r=388691
You can sign up with a local wallet mode, meaning you are the only one with access to your keys, this is most secure. There is also the option to sign up with and account if you require access to you funds on the go.

Transaction not seen on the network. Any ideas?

Details: I'm using the Litecoin Android mobile wallet. I broadcasted a successful transaction earlier in the evening. I then broadcasted another and none of the block explorers have seen it. It's been 1.5 hours. My wallet shows the reduced balance but still nothing shows up on the blockchain... Any ideas?
UPDATE: I followed these instructions to import my private key into Litecoin-QT and was able to spend them from there: https://bitcoin.stackexchange.com/questions/17176/how-to-decode-private-key-from-android-bitcoin-wallet

NEXT.chain Testnet & Mainnet Update.

NEXT.chain Testnet & Mainnet Update.

https://preview.redd.it/hgbru6elk2p21.jpg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0c22f3406434727de9531c2035c4e906acf91751
Hello NEXT community! We would like to briefly update with you as to how the Testnet of NEXT.chain is going as well as some insights as to our Mainnet.
For those who are new to our project, NEXT.chain is a PoS/PoW Blockchain built using Bitcoin Core, DASH and SYS.
Key features of NEXT.chain:
 • Masternodes (Emission and rewards)
 • PoW/PoS Hybrid with age rewards
 • Instant Send
 • Private Send
 • Asset hosting/deployments (NEXT.chain can be used to issue assets)
 • Short memorable addresses
 • Z-Dag
 • Governance and voting

More info on NEXT.chain can be found here:

Current Progress in Testnet.

Our Testnet is proceeding well, there have been no critical issues discovered that relate to NEXT.chain, the NEXT QT Wallet (tested on Mac, Windows, and Linux) the Blockexplorer, and the SHA256 Merge Mining Pool.
Preview of the NEXT Core Wallet. Available at chain.next.exchange for Mac, Windows, Linux.
However, we believe it will most likely be necessary to make some minor efficiency improvements to the Blockexplorer, Miningpool, and UI improvements for the wallet. Whether these adjustments will be made over the course of our Testnet is uncertain as they do not impede core functionality.
NEXT.chain is processing transactions well. Merged Mining is working well. NEXT Masternodes have been installed and are accruing rewards in Testnet.
Want to take part in our Testnet?
Those who wish to join the NEXT.chain Testnet together with over 50 of our community members may do so by following the instructions provided here: NEXT.chain Testnet Public Participation Instructions.

Mainnet.

March has been a productive month for our Testnet, we are feeling confident in our technology which is reflected in our news and by our recent increase in market capitalization, trade volume, and token price.
https://preview.redd.it/hq9ul407l2p21.jpg?width=1704&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=dcf022c92d821ac5953590f8a65075fa30195e15
However, deploying a Blockchain such as ours takes a serious amount of resources and time. It’s important to not rush the process of delivering Mainnet. Judging by how things are going, we will spend around 10 days with our Testers to ensure Masternode and NEXT.chain stability.
After this, we will begin preparations for Mainnet!

NEXT.exchange is a hybrid exchange platform based out of the Netherlands that aims to enhance the mass adoption and appeal of cryptocurrencies globally for both individuals and businesses.
The team behind NEXT.exchange has also created a unique Blockchain, NEXT.chain, and decentralized marketplace for Ethereum based tokens.
So, what’s next?

QT wallet – Most of the crypto currency core wallets are developed using QT software framework. They are available for Windows, Linux and Mac. QT wallets are professional client and offers full function that’s available for a currency. Also they are heavy as it is known to download the complete blockchain to your local computer. We can import any Bitcoin address to core QT wallet. But the process is bit complicated and moreover you need to run full node and you need to re-scan the blockchain. It takes a lot of time and is not worth it. So instead of core wallet there are several third party wallets that supports watch-only feature. To name some: Armory wallet, Blockchain wallet (blockchain.com), Bit wallet, Electrum ... Drag the wallet file into the area above. Supports blockchain.info (wallet.aes.json) files. × Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Bitcoin using Windows Explorer. In that folder, hold shift and right-click and select “Open command window here” In the command prompt, type bitcoin-qt.exe -rescan and hit enter. Now Bitcoin-Qt should start and rescan the blockchain to calculate the balances of the addresses in your wallet.dat file. I tried to import my private key from the BTC Core Wallet into another wallet because it doesn't work anymore, it says that there is no fund, even if it is 100%, as I can see on the Explorer.
